Event Details

The Washington National Cathedral is without doubt one of the most impressive places to tour and photograph in the capital city. The world's sixth largest cathedral combines the soaring heights found in French tradition with the "decorated" style of those in England. Factor in over 200 stained glass windows and the result is a photo excursion like no other in Washington.

This photo tour will focus on the unique history of this landmark, plus numerous tips on how to best capture the art, architecture and innumerable details found throughout fashioned in stone, wood, stained glass and wrought iron.

The excursion is being led by Clift A. Seferlis, architectural photographer and licensed tour guide. Clift, who is a native Washingtonian, has been photographing architecture and the built environment for close to 20 years. He has exhibited both in Washington, DC & New York City with works purchased for private and corporate collections. His work can be found in the new edition of the 1974 landmark book on Washington's outdoor sculpture.

Clift volunteers at the Washington National Cathedral as the assistant manager of the Cathedral's Art Information System Program, a database of all the building's art and architectural treasures.

See what others wanted to say about their tour...

"I have learned more in a few hours of a Photo Tour than in weeks of classes. The instruction is clear and approachable, and I have remembered it long after the tour."

"Lyn is a seasoned photographer that has passion for what he does. As a very enthusiastic, amiable guide, Lyn provides superlative coaching, starting with a group orientation about the essentials of photography, and then by giving each tour participate hands-on coaching with as much or as little as the student needs. Ample time is provided along the tour route so that one can leisurely find and take the shots they want. At the end of the tour, a recap of the 10 photo essentials, really helped reinforce the days lessons."
